Project Overview

In conjunction with Central Coast Council, Superior HDD was engaged on behalf of EIRE Constructions to install a new DN560 watermain under Avoca lagoon. Not only is the drill shot under the lagoon, but the route contained services including Telstra, HV cables, other gravity and sewer mains.

The first part of this project required Superior HDD to hammer in conductor casing. Using a Goliath Air Hammer this was all achieved before any drilling works could commence. The PD150/65 CU+ was then hooked up to an auger to remove all sand from the inside of the casing to allow the centraliser casing to be installed.

Drilling works then commenced using the 150 tonne rig to install the 560mm OD HDPE with the bore 400 metres in length under the lagoon.

This project had the constraints of working on opposite sides of the lagoon, working with differing water levels and limited access to the job location.

Overall Superior HDD did a great job in achieving all milestones on the project, completing the job on-time and incident free.
